This project is Year 3 and 4 (Phase III & IV) in the revival of CANTF-5 and the strategy will be to target training to achieve greater depth in ranks and to add a support cadre to the existing trained rescuers.

Expected Results:

Focused training on core fundamental HUSAR elements of structural collapse, technical search, high angle, trench, confined space, advanced search, ICS training, K-9, Hazmat and medical. TF-5 will begin a program of skill maintenance and Operational exercises to build competency and address skill fade. Enhance medical response as per Heavy capability. Purchase additional support infrastructure to provide for multi-casualty patient care and provide advance care to patients in the field. Expand Base Of Operations to sustain team when deployed. Annual equipment maintenance and readiness checks. Monitoring and completing the required certifications to maintain a team that is ready and able to respond as a team or to support the national program.

The HUSAR Program aims to maintain the HUSAR capabilities of Canadian HUSAR Task Forces in Vancouver (British Columbia); Calgary (Alberta); the Province of Manitoba; and Toronto (Ontario). The Program also aims to develop HUSAR capacity and capability in the underserved regions of Montreal (Quebec) and Halifax (Nova Scotia).
