Description:
The primary goal of the Northern Circle of Youth project is to create opportunities that will support urban Indigenous youth ages 6-17 in enhancing their personal, economic and social growth in a culturally sensitive, safe and drug/alcohol-free environment. The project will offer afterschool activities and the programs, services and activities provided will be delivered in a holistic, inclusive manner that will be conducive to meeting the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the urban Indigenous youth population. Programs, services and activities will include (but are not limited to) the following components: Sports & Recreation, Health, Culture, Social Issues, Community Engagement & Leadership and Employment/Education/Training.

Expected Results:

The projected outcomes for this project include: Youth are engaged in supervised activities Intermediate Outcomes Developed Youth Leadership Skills Developed and Improved social, decision-making and life skills within the youth Increased knowledge of Indigenous identity Increased youth connection to Elders, Nature, Community and Spirituality Increased of self-esteem through provision of positive alternatives to address self-esteem issues, bullying and peer pressure Increased support for youth in the areas of education, training and employment. Long Term Outcomes Reduction of Youth Crime Reduction of negative behaviours within the youth; and youth become positive role models within their community
