Description:
This 3-year project intends to finalize development and implementation of the Emergency Response Units (ERUs), which is a continuation from the previous two cycles of funding (2021-22 and 2022-23), enabling St. John Ambulance (SJA) to maintain critical capabilities for all-hazards response across Canada. The ERUs in Canada respond to municipal, provincial/territorial, and federal requests for assistance during natural disasters and human emergencies. Currently, St. John Ambulance is nationalizing its existing workforce and building a larger program to contribute to the health of all people, including the creation of safe spaces and increased cultural competencies toward working with vulnerable communities such as, but not limited to, Indigenous communities.

Expected Results:
The expected result of this project is to enhance the response capacity of requests for assistance and outbreak crisis management, by strengthening programs and courses to increase the number of qualified volunteers and staff and building on existing relationships with marginalized communities. This projects aims for a community approach to developing, maintaining, and improving preparedness, response and recovery for all-hazards risk.
