Description:
The project aims to increase public safety by addressing the gap in services for older offenders transitioning back to the community. Older offenders transitioning to the community experience greater challenges around housing, access to medical/mental health care, income support, and system navigation in general. The Salvation Army will assist senior offenders by using an individualized case management approach combined with community support circles. Through practical engagements and information sharing with community partners, the project’s goal is to provide senior offenders a smoother, healthier transition from institutions to the community and reduce recidivism.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes of this project are to increase knowledge and understanding of decision-making to enhance public safety by developing, testing, and documenting innovated approaches to address recidivism, to increase intersectoral /interdisciplinary collaboration transition from prison into a community by enhancing services and dissemination of information. The medium and long term expected outcomes are to increase capacity of national voluntary organizations, increasing community capacity to work with victims, offenders, families, and officials through public education and outreach campaigns and to produce a safer, secure, and more resilient Canadian society.
