Description:
The Okanagan Nation Alliance will hold a regional community safety gathering to provide an opportunity for communities who have completed a community safety planning process or are in the early stages of a safety planning process to connect and discuss shared experiences associated with safety plan implementation. The gathering will be an opportunity to share information on safety initiatives, identify successes, best practices and challenges while supporting regional collaboration and partnerships. Approximately 38 communities would be participating at this gathering.

Expected Results:

The anticipated immediate outcomes to long term outcomes of the project include: supporting a regional community safety in-person engagement for communities working in the space of community safety and wellness; increased opportunity for knowledge development and knowledge sharing on crime prevention and wellness initiatives; supporting opportunities for collaboration and partnership for communities; increased socialization and awareness of the Aboriginal Community Safety Planning Initiative with external partners regionally; increased capacity for communities to respond to safety and wellness concerns in the community; increased multi-sectoral support and collaboration for agencies and programs who work in the space of community safety and wellness.

Program Purpose:

The purpose of the contributions is to provide support to Aboriginal organizations (on and off-reserve), Aboriginal governments and municipalities in collaboration with Aboriginal organizations and or communities to develop tailored approaches to community safety, alternatives to incarceration and reintegration of Aboriginal offenders that are responsive to the concerns, priorities and unique circumstances of Aboriginal communities.
