Immediate Outcomes:
The project will result in the development of a needs assessment and options analysis to determine the future policing model in Temagami First Nation. The final assessment report will help determine whether they wish to pursue a joint or individual self-administered police service, join an existing police service, or maintain their existing policing model; provide full costing to inform discussions with Ontario and Canada, should a self-administered police service be desired by Temagami First Nation; and provide the information required to submit an application for a new self-administered police service, as set out in the Terms and Conditions (T&Cs) for Funding for First Nations and Inuit Policing Program (FNIPP).
Long-term Outcomes:
This project contributes to the potential transition of a community out of the Ontario First Nations Policing Agreement (OFNPA) and into a policing model supported by the FNIPP T&Cs and supports the establishment of policing services in First Nation and Inuit communities that are professional, dedicated and culturally responsive to the communities they serve.
