Title:
Agreement on the Funding of Policing Infrastructure of the Community of Gesgapegiag
Agreement Number:
3110-22325
Agreement Value:
$3,120,000.00
Agreement Date:
Mar 29, 2022 - Mar 31, 2024
Description:
The project consists of building a new police detachment in the community of Gesgapegiag as the existing detachment is too small, shows visible signs of disrepair and no longer meets current health and safety standards. The new 939 m2 police detachment includes a video courtroom, several offices, an interview room, a conference room, a smaller room for meetings, a mini-gym, a garage and separate changing rooms for men and women. It will be designed in accordance with the National Building Code, provincial policing standards and led by qualified professionals. The project assessment, made by regional Public Safety officers and Québec representatives, concluded that the cost of the project is reasonable in relation to the cost of similar facilities in Québec, the surface area, the remoteness of the location and the capacity of the community to implement this project. The Council has appointed an engineer from the technical department of the Grand Conseil de la Nation Waban-Aki, as project manager for this project. March 13th, 2020, the Government of Québec declared a state of health emergency, which in consequently delayed the construction project of the policing infrastructure in the community of Gesgapegiag. This delay was caused by various measures put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, a halt to this industry's work for several months, and the shortage and increased costs of materials. To address these issues and ensure the delivery of the project, additional funds are allocated to the budget, and the agreement is extended until 2026.
