Grants and Contributions:
The expected outcomes of the project are to provide board development and governance training needed to establish a police service board, recruit a chief of police, and position the community to enhance and establish a policing service that is conducive to their needs.
Phase 1 – Project initiation and planning
- The initial kick-off meeting will have been held with Pikangikum.
- Follow up communications to Pikangikum First Nation have provided expectations and a detailed validated project scope, objectives, resources, approach and expected outcomes.
Phase 2 – Review of current Pikangikum Police Policies
- Policies have been revised
- Areas requiring customization or adaptation for Pikangikum have been identified.
Phase 3 – Research and Development of Pikangikum Police Board Policies and Procedures
- Policies for the Pikangikum Police Service and its Board have been developed based on best practices, research from other First Nation Police Services and the
requirements of the Police Services Act and the Policing Standards Manual (2000).
