Grants and Contributions:
The expected outcome of this project will be to provide immediate support to communities affected by the 2024 wildfire season in the Northwest Territories, through the redistribution of government contributions to municipalities, Indigenous governing bodies and non-profits responding to the wildfires. Other outcomes include improving the knowledge on emergency preparedness and response through lessons learned and improving the organizational structure of the United Way, which will also strengthen the relationship between the territorial government and the United Way.
The purpose of this amendment is to increase the agreement value from $362,280.00 to $2,547,660.00. The United Way of Northwest Territories will host a Debrief Gathering for Northwest Territories' non-profits in the fall of 2024 to debrief from the 2023 wildfire season in order to build capacity in risk mitigation, risk awareness and emergency planning. They will also introduce three new grants: 1. To the Northern Farming Training Institute for redevelopment; 2. To community and Indigenous governments to develop plans to address psycho-social supports for those impacted by the 2023 wildfire season and; 3. To Northwest Territories non-profits who attend the debrief gathering in Fall 2024.
The Supporting a Humanitarian Workforce to Respond to COVID-19 and Other Large-Scale Emergencies Program (“the Program”) is a contribution program that will provide funding to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) so that they may build capacity and deploy to respond to COVID-19 and other large-scale emergencies.
