It will build capacity of existing social agencies by sharing information and coordinating case planning. Structured data collection on cases will identify common risk factors as well, so that community programs can be more strategically developed.
The program purpose is to provide support in the adaptation, development and implementation of innovative and promising culturally sensitive crime prevention practices which address known risk and protective factors to reduce vulnerability to crime and promote community safety approaches in Indigenous communities both on and off-reserve and in the North. The NICPF also focuses on building capacity and knowledge to identify and promote Indigenous crime prevention and community safety best practices.
