Description:
This project aims at the six core problems identified by community and government practitioners in Nunavut and Nunavik that impact Search and Rescue (SAR) response times. By working directly with Nunavut Emergency Management (NEM), Kativik Civil Security (KCS), and community responders in Nunavut and Nunavik, this project will address these pressing response problems: confusion on roles, responsibilities and capabilities, lack of consistent training opportunities for community SAR responders, critical capability gaps, challenges involved in determining search areas, lack of new alerting and detection technology, and addressing the issues related to Nunavummiut/Nunavimmiut unwilling and unable to use personal locator beacons and satellite communication devices.

Expected Results:
The outcome of this project will facilitate the creation of mechanisms to uplift cooperation, collaboration, and effective communication in Search and Rescue operations, which will improve response times and its effectiveness in Nunavut and Nunavik. This project will help to address some of the critical incident stress challenges that have been identified by Inuit responders, which will help make long-term evidence based policy for Search and Rescue in Inuit Nunangat.
