Description:
This project will identify areas of improvement to foster equity, inclusivity, and diversity within the field of search and rescue for Canadian SAR teams and organizations across Canada, with a target population of women. This will be completed by recruiting a team of researchers, receiving ethics application approval, developing a questionnaire, collecting participant data, analyzing participant data, and providing their findings to SAR organizations through reports, conferences, and webinars.

Expected Results:

The outcome of this project is to identify key areas regarding success, opportunities, and barriers that women face in their current roles and in paths to leadership in the search and rescue community, and how these barriers can be removed. This will result in a increase in the number of search and rescue volunteers and their retention, improve the volunteer experience in the search and rescue community, and increase the representation of women involved in Search and Rescue.
