Description:

This project will provide a validated large-scale Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale (ATES) rating for mountainous regions of Canada and develop infrastructure to make this information available for Canadians, which will assist in search and rescue prevention. This project's target population is recreational backcountry travellers, who will participate in the project evaluation.

The outcomes of this project will help establish Avalanche Canada as a source for reliable avalanche terrain information for recreational backcountry travellers by mapping large areas of mountainous terrain and developing the necessary IT infrastructure and policies for Avalanche Canada to effectively host Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale map layers.
