Description:
The purpose of the project is to increase the capacity of the Campbell River Restorative Justice Program to provide more culturally aware and trauma-informed service to Indigenous offenders and victims, as they navigate through Restorative Justice processes. Reducing recidivism, providing an alternative to court, a process to reintegrate after incarceration, and developing a training curriculum and volunteer team to carry this service into the foreseeable future.

Alternatives to incarceration projects developed

The IRJW project will increase awareness of restorative justice practices within the Court system, increasing the capacity of the Restorative Justice Program (RJ Program) to provide specialized services to their Indigenous community members, as they navigate through the RJ Program. Thus, reducing recidivism and preventing further contact with the Criminal Justice System.

The purpose of the contributions is to provide support to Aboriginal organizations (on and off-reserve), Aboriginal governments and municipalities in collaboration with Aboriginal organizations and or communities to develop tailored approaches to community safety, alternatives to incarceration and reintegration of Aboriginal offenders that are responsive to the concerns, priorities and unique circumstances of Aboriginal communities.
