Description:
This project aims to protect public safety on roadways in Canada by equipping law enforcement with the training, tools and technology necessary to enforce new and existing drug-impaired driving legislation, and to deter through research, public awareness and the development of evidence-based policies. Funding is provided for law enforcement training on SFST, DRE and ADSE use; procurement and deployment of ADSE; public awareness and education; data collection and research to monitor activities, outcomes and trends.

Expected Results:

By the end of the project, it is expected that a minimum of 33% of BC’s approximately 4,800 frontline officers will be trained in SFST, up to 945 will receive SFST refresher training and up to 475 will be DRE-certified. Short-term outcomes are: to provide required SFST training to front-line police officers and SFST Refresher training to those who were SFST trained prior to October 2017 to build immediate capacity to enforce drug-impaired driving offenses; to provide DRE training and certification to support drug-impaired enforcement in all BC communities; to implement a national standardized data collection approach for drug-impaired driving.
