Grants and Contributions:
The First Nation communities involved in Saskatchewan’s FNCSO pilot project will have access to this funding through transfer agreements with the Province of Saskatchewan.
- This project supports the professional development of indigenous recruits, either to the RCMP, to municipal police services, or to Self-Administered police services. The ability for these individuals to experience this professional growth, while supporting the communities they are most often a part of, provides individual motivation to provide a dedicated service to the communities win which they serve.- Increased presence of FNCSOs in communities leads to reduction in workload for the RCMP (e.g., reduced calls for service), and improved effectiveness of RCMP through improved information sharing and improved community collaboration in the delivery of services.
- Increased presence of FNCSOs plays a meaningful role in achieving reconciliation efforts with indigenous communities, as well as increased engagement and improved relationships between community members and the RCMP.
