Description:
Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) currently provides responsive and culturally relevant policing services for Birdtail Sioux, Canupawakpa Dakota, Long Plain/Keeshkeemaquah, Roseau River, Sandy Bay, Swan Lake, Waywayseecappo, Opaskwayak, and Brokenhead. Expansion to provide policing services for Gambler, Dakota Plains and Fisher River is set to occur in the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Expected Results:

Indigenous communities will have access to dedicated and professional policing services; these policing services are responsive to the needs and cultures of the indigenous communities they serve and achieve a reduction of the gap between police reported crime in indigenous communities, and the rest of Canada.

  • The Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) provides day-to-day policing services to the communities throughout southern, southwestern, and northern Manitoba identified within this agreement. A First Nation Safety Officer program will begin in the 2025-26 fiscal year in Brokenhead, Fisher River and Long Plain as a complement to MFNPS's policing operations in these communities.
