This agreement will support the next stage of transition plan for Walpole Island towards a potential self-administered policing agreement. This agreement is subsequent to an earlier “stage 1” policing needs assessment. To this agreement will support the next steps from that previous assessment which is the establishment of a police board for Walpole Island First Nation

Indigenous communities within Walpole Island will have access to funding and resources to form a dedicated and responsive police service upon the formation of a Police Board.

  • Indigenous communities within Walpole Island will have access to dedicated policing services that are being delivered in a manner that is respectful of their culture.

  • Policing services are responsive to the needs and cultures of the First Nation and Inuit communities they serve within Walpole Island.

  • Indigenous communities living in Walpole Island will benefit from an increased sense of safety due to a dedicated police presence while addressing observed gaps in service.
