Description:
Pikangikum First Nation recently conducted a policing needs assessment to better understand the policing model options available to them under the FNIPP. A stand-alone, self-governed police service was indicated as the Nation’s preference of policing models. To support the community's needs, this project will support them in developing its own sets of customized policies and procedures, provide governance training and establish a board of directors, and consultants will support them in hiring a chief of police.

By implementing the second stage of the policing needs assessment, this project will provide Pikangikum with the ability to establish a police board, and lay the foundations to establish a police service that is delivered in a matter that is respectful to the community's culture.
