Description:
To contribute to the improvement of Canada's search and rescue system, this project will create a volunteer recruitment and retention plan and toolkit, therefore sustaining the volunteer marine and rescue community on British Columbia's west coast. Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR) will achieve this by assessing and identifying practices, integrating findings, and developing a plan that will facilitate recruitment and long-term retention of RCMSAR volunteers on BC's west coast.

Expected Results:

The expected outcome of this project is to enhance the effectiveness of the SAR response in federal, provincial, and territorial jurisdictions through improvements to current recruitment and retention processes and practices that are impacted by organizational barriers, gain a shift in volunteer demographics, increase diversity and stability in the RCMSAR volunteer workforce and ensure sufficient volunteer recruitment and retention in strategic locations and timings.
