Description:
This project is to support the Manitoba First Nation Safety Officer Program, regulated under the Manitoba Police Services Act. The province of Manitoba will support First Nations through redistribution of funds to employ the First Nation Safety Officers working in their communities and provide training and equipment as well. This agreement supports the presence of dedicated and culturally appropriate community safety personnel in Manitoba First Nations.

Expected Results:

Indigenous communities have access to this funding: The Manitoba First Nations Safety Officer Program seeks to become available to all 63 First Nation communities in Manitoba.

-Funded policing services are dedicated: Increase in the number of safety officers working in First Nation communities with fair market salaries, better equipment and better training will support in ensuring the program offers dedicated tiered policing services throughout Manitoba First Nation communities.

-Funded policing services are responsive to the needs and cultures of the First Nation and Inuit communities they serve: Training will ensure Safety officers will be responsive to the needs and cultures of the First Nation communities.

-People living in First Nation and Inuit communities feel safe: With better training, equipment, tools, and support, services will be enhanced and expanded supporting the ability for First Nations communities to feel safer.
