Grants and Contributions:
Indigenous communities have access to this funding:
- Approximately 375 Indigenous People have access to services provided through this project.
Funded services are dedicated:
- Selkirk First Nation (SFN) will have access to five full-time Community Safety Officers (CSO) that provide dedicated, non-enforcement, community safety and wellness programs to the community.
Funded services are response to the needs and cultures of the First Nation and Inuit Communities they serve:
- SFN CSO staff will improve and expand necessary skills through training that supports their ability to work within the community and carry out project activities.
- SFN will have increased availability to culturally responsive services and programs that address mental health, substance abuse, and trauma.
People living in First Nation communities feel safe:
- The Scene Safety Response Unit team will contribute to a reduction in property damage and citizen health emergency response times.
- The community will have a decrease in animal safety concerns per the Canadian Animal Assistance Team visit.
Project was preapproved to start April 1, 2025, although the agreement was signed December 22, 2025.
To enhance the effectiveness of policing services in First Nation and Inuit communities in terms of cultural relevance and responsiveness to the public safety need of communities.
