Grants and Contributions:
A centralized, accessible, and searchable database of fatal accidents will provide vital information for meaningful synthesis of the dataset. This will enable the development of evidence-based tools and other prevention initiatives that significantly reduce the frequency and mitigate the duration and severity of Search and Rescue (SAR) incidents. This database will also play a strong role in public education, allowing recreational users to easily and effectively access information that informs their decision-making. Timely access to this data, accompanied by expert analyses, will be an important factor in avalanche accident prevention by educating individuals and organizations on risk assessment and the importance of acquiring and using the knowledge, skills, and equipment needed to minimize injury and loss of life.

The Search and Rescue New Initiatives Fund contributes financially towards projects that improve and enhance the enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, economy, and innovation of search and rescue activities in the areas of prevention and/or response.
