Grants and Contributions:
The specific objective of the contribution stream is to provide funding to eligible recipients to create or expand application support services for individuals with criminal records looking to apply for a record suspension.
Ultimately, the objective of JHS NL’s project is to successfully guide clients through the application process and effectively increase the number of individuals being awarded record suspensions annually which will lead to more successful reintegration and increased community functioning.
With funding, JHS NL proposes their additional employees will minimize waitlists for clients, increase utilization of the Record Suspension Program within the province and will contribute to the successful receipt of a record suspension for eligible clients in a timely manner.
According to JHS NL, the proposed project is “crucial for supporting reintegration” of clients who may feel that a criminal record has negatively affected their employment, housing opportunities, and their status in the community. Ultimately JHS NL proposes that individuals impacted from having a criminal record may be more likely to have long lasting impacts on their mental health, substance use and/or possible recidivism. Therefore, these individuals would benefit from the services to help them attain a record suspension and break the
stigma, discrimination and disadvantages that may come from having a criminal record.
Of the eligible outcomes listed in the terms and conditions, JHS NL has indicated they intend on fulfilling the following:
Immediate Outcomes:
· Increased knowledge and understanding for decision-making in Canada’s criminal justice and corrections systems.
· Shared knowledge and awareness leading to enhanced delivery of services, such as dissemination of information.
· Contribution recipients have the capacity to administer support services for pardon application assistance through program funding.
Intermediate Outcomes:
· Increased capacity of NVOs to fulfill their mandates.
· Contribution recipients implement support services for pardon application assistance through program funding.
Long-Term Outcomes:
· Individuals with criminal records are using supports provided by government-funded projects.
