Description:
The City of Ottawa: Priority Neighbourhood Youth Initiative aims to combat gun and gang violence and address knowledge gaps through the development of community-based prevention and intervention strategies and initiatives.

Expected Results:

Short-term:  
- Recipient obtains funding for prevention and intervention initiatives to address and respond to gun and gang violence;
- Grassroots organizations participate in the development of the Priority Neighbourhood Youth Initiative;
- Youth and families participate in the Priority Neighbourhood Youth Initiative addressing risk factors and increasing protective factors;
- Individualized case plans for participants are developed based on initial risk assessment;
- Youth serving community organizations and institutions are aware of the impact, risk and challenges of youth gang and gun violence. 

Medium Term:
- Recipient implements informed prevention and intervention initiatives to respond to gun and gang violence;
- Prevention and intervention initiatives includes input from grassroots organizations;
- Grassroots organizations deliver at least five summer camp programs, five after-school programs and two programs of activities for racialized youth;
- Youth and families have access to public health and other important social resources;
- Youth and families in all priority neighbourhoods have access to a neighbourhood youth worker;
- 40 school social workers, 60 recreation program staff, and 30 substance use treatment providers, who work daily with Black and other racialized youth, report being more knowledgeable and better equipped to address social environmental and system of care factors that exacerbate youth traumatic stress;
- Participants demonstrate improved emotional regulation capacities and personal resilience;
- Participants demonstrate a decrease in resource hardship, symptoms of depression, or post-traumatic symptoms;
- Reduce isolation of participating racialized children, youth and families;
- Prevention and intervention initiatives serves 2900 individuals yearly.

Long Term:
- Municipality and community organizations are equipped to address gun and gang violence through intervention and prevention initiatives;
- Youth in Ottawa are diverted from gang involvement;
- Grassroots groups have increased capacity to support youth and families;
- Knowledge and evidence on effective engagement with racialized youth and families is promoted among youth serving organizations and institutions in Ottawa.
