Agreement Number:
23482
Agreement Value:
$315,871.00
Agreement Date:
Mar 20, 2024 - Mar 31, 2026
Description:
Pikangikum First Nation recently conducted a policing needs assessment to better understand the policing model options available to them under the First Nations and Inuit Policing Program (FNIPP). A stand-alone First Nation police service was indicated as the Nation’s preference of policing models. To support the community's needs, this project will support them in developing its own sets of customized policies and procedures, provide governance training and establish a board of directors, and consultants will support them in hiring a chief of police.
Organization:
Public Safety Canada
Expected Results:

Through federal and provincial investments and a community‑driven approach to planning and capacity development, Pikangikum First Nation will move toward a future where policing and safety services are more effective, culturally-appropriate, and trusted. These efforts will ultimately lead to improved safety outcomes, enhanced community well‑being, and a policing system that reflects the community’s values, priorities, and path towards a First Nation police service.
