Short-Term Outcomes:
•Identified municipalities and Indigenous communities have funding for prevention and intervention initiatives to address and respond to gun and gang violence.
•Increased knowledge and understanding of the issue among community partners, municipal departments, the public, and affected families following the sharing of the Situational Assessment and the developed strategy.
•Enhanced understanding among community partners about the issue of youth gang involvement and exploitation, and the importance of coordinated efforts.
•Early insights into effectiveness of initiatives and potential improvements identified.
Medium-Term Outcomes:
•Identified municipalities and Indigenous communities implement informed prevention and intervention initiatives to respond to gun and gang violence.
•Implementation of prevention and intervention activities as outlined in the developed strategy.
•Increased access to and utilization of supportive services by youth at risk of gang involvement and exploitation and their families.
• Regular analysis of collected data, providing insights into trends, impact, and effectiveness of initiatives.
Long-Term Outcomes:
•Identified municipalities and Indigenous communities are equipped to address gun and gang violence through intervention and prevention initiatives.
•Strengthening of protective factors among youth, making them less susceptible to recruitment into gangs.
•Reduction in the number of youth involved in gang activities and exploitation in Thunder Bay, reflecting the effectiveness of the preventative measures and interventions provided.
• Sustainability of the Youth Gang Prevention Strategy
The purpose of this amendment is to extend the agreement date to March 31, 2027. There is no change to Public Safety Canada funding.
The program purpose is to support Municipalities and Indigenous governments in their efforts to address gun and gang prevalence by providing a determined funding allocation to put in place community led projects to combat gun and gang violence and address knowledge gaps concerning the impacts of interventions in gun and gang violence.
