Description:
The purpose of this contribution is to reduce the over-incarceration of Indigenous youth by creating a culturally relevant Youth Justice Diversion Program. Through a needs assessment, traditional practices, community-based solutions, and mentorship from Indigenous elders, the program will prevent the cycle of incarceration and recidivism. It will support 100 Indigenous youth aged 12–17 who are involved in or at risk of criminalization due to systemic barriers.

Expected Results:

To support the recruitment and engagement, five annual workshops will be delivered in partnership with schools and community organizations, reaching about 10 youth aged 12-17 per session.
