Description:
The Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve will undertake an offender reintegration project that will provide culturally relevant reintegration support to local band members after their return from a correctional facility. They will work with provincial and federal correctional facilities and liaise with local service providers to provide appropriate supports and services for offenders.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes for this project will include: An increase in the number of individuals accessing relevant Wiikwemkoong services after their return from a custodial sentence or remand; An increase in the number of offenders engaging with Elders and others in Wiikwemkoong for cultural teachings and support; A greater number of returning individuals who will live in healthy family relationships; A reduction in offending among returning individuals and, ultimately, a reduction in incarceration; and Enhanced knowledge and sharing of the most effective ways to support the reintegration of individuals into the community.
