Grants and Contributions:
The expected outcomes for this project include: Increased knowledge and strategies to address the challenges faced by incarcerated Indigenous parents; Incarcerated parents and their families will have increased knowledge about family connectedness during incarceration; Incarcerated parents will have increased access to specialized support services before and after release; Incarcerated parents and their families will have increased opportunity for successful reintegration; and The rate of re-incarceration for Indigenous parents will be reduced.
The purpose of the contributions is to provide Aboriginal organizations (on and off-reserve), Aboriginal governments and municipalities in collaboration with Aboriginal organizations and or communities to develop tailored approaches to community safety, alternatives to incarceration and reintegration of Aboriginal offenders that are responsive to the concerns, priorities and unique circumstances of Aboriginal communities.
