Description:
This agreement sustains the current capacity of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (AMPS) to participate in the Joint Investigative Team (JIT) in Cornwall, ON, which is an integrated team of enforcement partners and includes the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The JIT can also coordinate police operations with other law enforcement groups, including, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Sûreté du Québec, the Cornwall Police Service, the St.Regis Tribal Police, and other law enforcement entities in Canada and the United States, as required.

Expected Results:

Immediate outcomes: (1) enhanced capacity for the AMPS to investigate organized crime networks and related criminal activities in and around Akwesasne; (2) improved information and intelligence sharing on the nature of organized crime activity; (3) increased seizures of illegal commodities in and around Akwesasne; (4) increased disruption of criminal organizations and networks in and around Akwesasne; and, (5) increased youth awareness with respect to the criminality of smuggling.
Intermediate outcomes: (1) Increased knowledge regarding the nature and scope of contraband tobacco activities in and around Akwesasne; and, (2) reduced organized crime activity and related criminal activities on First Nations territories.
Ultimate outcome: a safe and resilient Canada by enhancing efforts to combat serious and organized crime.

Program:
Contribution Program to Combat Serious and Organized Crime (CPCSOC)
Program Purpose:

The overall objective of the CPCSOC is to contribute to the achievement of departmental legislative, policy development, and partnership building objectives by: (1) supporting projects  and/or programs including specialized police services that focus on enhancing efforts to combat serious and organized crime and increasing awareness and understanding of related issues; (2) supporting initiatives and/or research projects to increase understanding of the (evolving) nature of serious and organized crime, including its structures, activities and impact on communities; (3) creating or reinforcing partnerships among recipients; (4) facilitating cooperation and collaboration among various levels of government and stakeholders; and (5) informing the development/implementation of policies, procedures and legislation.

Coverage:
The work undertaken by the recipient under this agreement mostly benefits the Mohawk community of Akwesasne. Collaboration with other police of jurisdiction also plays a significant role in the safety and security of surrounding communities in Quebec and Ontario. // Le travail entrepris par le bénéficiaire en vertu de cette entente profite principalement à la communauté mohawk d’Akwesasne.
