Description:
The Tl’etinqox Community Justice Program will have a Reintegration Support Worker provide support to approximately 30 Tl’etinqox Members from the time of incarceration until one year after their completion of parole. As well, Program Staff will provide in-reach services to incarcerated community members at Provincial and Federal institutions once a year.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes for the Tl’etinqox Community Justice Program - Reintegration Support are: enhanced community capacity to respond to the needs of reintegrating offenders; a best practice model for the reintegration of offenders is developed; reintegrating offenders have access to culturally appropriate support from the point of incarceration to return to the community; Tsilhqot’in culture is revitalized with the prioritization of individual and community healing which will ultimately lead to reduced recidivism; and barriers and gaps in service provision that contribute to the over-representation of Indigenous offenders in the criminal justice system will be identified and addressed.

The purpose of the contributions is to provide support to Aboriginal organizations (on and off-reserve), Aboriginal governments and municipalities in collaboration with Aboriginal organizations and or communities to develop tailored approaches to community safety, alternatives to incarceration and reintegration of Aboriginal offenders that are responsive to the concerns, priorities and unique circumstances of Aboriginal communities.
