Organization:
Public Safety Canada
Expected Results:

These projects will produce flood modeling and mapping for many regions, and will produce a new digital elevation model, coastal inundation models for sea level rise and tsunamis, and related inundation mapping including water level, depth and velocities for a high populated area with extensive built assets at risk. These projects will also provide a comprehensive, up-to-date, searchable and geo-referenced database of flood hazards (including debris-flow and debris-flood) and their background (such as incident reports, mitigation designs, etc.) throughout CSRD to support a risk based decision making framework for land use planning, and will identify gaps in flood risk knowledge and a related action plan.

National Disaster Mitigation Program (NDMP)
Program Purpose:

The NDMP addresses rising flood risks and costs, and builds the foundation for informed mitigation investments that could reduce, or even negate, the effects of flood events. The NDMP fills a critical gap in Canada's ability to effectively mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from, flood-related events by building a body of knowledge on flood risks in Canada, and investing in foundational flood mitigation activities.
