Description:
This project will allow St. Theresa Point to focus on the continuation of work towards a safer community. It will entail hiring a coordinator to implement formal processes of the identified priority areas of the Safety Plan. The focus would be to identify, develop and ensure community engagement around the plan. The project will support capacity building through training, knowledge development and dissemination and activities that will support readiness and capacity to move forward with Safety Plan implementation. The key partners will be the core group mobilized by the Safety Plan.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes from this project include: Increased/improved communication between core group members; Communication protocols will be put into practice to ensure more efficient service delivery; Development of strategies to address service gaps; Improved access to community services, resources and systems of support; Increased level of community participation as community member’s buy-in to the Community Safety Plans; Increased community capacity; and Reinforcements will be put into place to help ensure the implementation of the Community Safety Plan.

The purpose of the contributions is to provide support to Aboriginal organizations (on and off-reserve), Aboriginal governments and municipalities in collaboration with Aboriginal organizations and or communities to develop tailored approaches to community safety, alternatives to incarceration and reintegration of Aboriginal offenders that are responsive to the concerns, priorities and unique circumstances of Aboriginal communities.
