Description:

WeatherToBoat (WTB) is a 3-year initiative to create, launch and promote a free, powerful boating App that offers everything a Canadian boater will want to better enjoy their boating. First, attracting boater/users with marine weather forecasts and other ‘must have’ boating information, WTB’s main goal will be to use the platform to deliver comprehensive safety messaging to better inform and educate boaters in an effort to reduce their chances of being subject of a Search and Rescue call out.

Expected Results:

The short-term outcomes include the creation, launch, promotion and attraction of recreational boaters to an App that offers a better boating experience and couples the delivery of complete marine weather and other safety/SAR prevention information. An extensive and aggressive marketing campaign will notify boaters of this new App to increase user participation and provide the widest possible, measurable audience of boaters to communicate boating safety message with. Medium term: The medium-term outcomes include a measurable broader user base and an expansion of the App to provide a variety of other important, user focused safety features, including tailor-made boating safety information, trip planning with auto alerting, and geo-referenced delivery of relevant safety alerts. Another medium-term outcome will be the preparation of the App and user base to participate in the sustainability of WTB ‘post NIF’.

SAR NIF provides annual funding for projects that will improve the National Search and Rescue Program. SAR NIF projects must address at least one of the National SAR Program Annual Priorities.
