Description:
The purpose of this contribution is to provide funding to examine the role of generativity, the desire to leave a legacy that lasts beyond the self, in motivating youth aged 18 to 24 in Quebec and Ontario to engage in social justice causes through violent and non-violent means. Generative motivations are often dismissed or overlooked in this developmental period, despite evidence that young people are motivated to serve future generations.

Expected Results:
Short- and long-term outcomes will include: a greater understanding of the role generativity plays in motivating young people to engage in radical groups; an increase in knowledge around generativity; and, the prevention of youth engaging in radical groups and violent extremism.
