Title:
Operational snow simulations for avalanche forecasting in Canada: implementation of the SNOWPACK model into the Avalanche Forecasting System
Agreement Number:
The PSIMS agreement number: 19825
Agreement Value:
$348,250.00
Agreement Date:
May 10, 2018 - Mar 31, 2021
Description:
The University de Sherbrooke project aims to provide tools that decrease the uncertainty (and associated increased risk) related to remote call outs and increased melt freeze crusts and rain on snow events. Increasing the toolkit for avalanche risk assessment in light of these factors benefits all Canadians in avalanche affected areas, especially SAR responders who are called out under urgent conditions.
Organization:
Public Safety Canada
Expected Results:

• Automatic simulations available at the two study sites
• Simulations for both sites, distributed daily to project partners
• Regional GIS including DEM, soil properties and albedo is available for both sites.
• Simulations and forcing data are validated.
