Description:
This knowledge-sharing project is Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies’ (CAEFS) first incremental step towards expanding its regional advocacy to the northern territories. This project will bring together cross-sectoral justice workers for two-days of knowledge-sharing in Whitehorse, Yukon, to co-develop strategies on community-identified barriers to community reintegration post-incarceration and recidivism reduction. Invitees will include representatives from all 14 First Nation governments, Indigenous organizations, non-profit organizations, territorial government justice workers, and interested community members.

Expected Results:
The expected results of this knowledge-sharing project include cross-sectoral relationship building to better support Indigenous women and gender-diverse people returning to remote, northern communities post-incarceration; increased territorial justice-sector knowledge of the legislative framework governing the federal prisons; and co-developing strategies modeled on CAEFS’ federal advocacy work in federal prisons designated for women to support those incarcerated at Whitehorse Correctional Centre, the territorial correctional centre.
