Description:
On June 5, 2023, the Government of Canada announced it would join the Government of the Northwest Territories in matching donations raised by the United Way of the Northwest Territories (UWNWT) through the NWT Emergency Response Fund campaign. The Funds raised are to support response and recovery efforts related to the 2023 wildfire events in the Northwest Territories. UWNWT will redistribute funds to community organizations, charities and First Nations governments to support their emergency response and recovery efforts. By granting funds to help with relief of wildfires, people impacted by these emergencies will be provided with immediate support.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes of this project are to support emergency management response to all-hazard events, including to address the specific needs of the communities that face social, cultural and economic marginalization. The achievement of these outcomes will be enables by the redistribution of funds to communities, charities, and non-profits responding to wildfires in the Northwest Territories. The ultimate expected outcome is a whole of community approach used to develop, maintain, and improve preparedness, response and recovery for all-hazard risks.
