Grants and Contributions:
The project’s overarching goal is to mitigate the impact of identified risk factors among at-risk Indigenous youth (12–30) in the Lennox Island First Nation community, including but not limited to drug and alcohol use, mental illness, racism, a lack of supports and services, and the effects of intergenerational trauma. It is anticipated that the project will serve 35-60 youth per year over a 51-month period, with participation tracked for each activity.
The program purpose is to provide support in the adaptation, development and implementation of innovative and promising culturally sensitive crime prevention practices which address known risk and protective factors to reduce vulnerability to crime and promote community safety approaches in Indigenous communities both on and off-reserve and in the North. The NICPF also focuses on building capacity and knowledge to identify and promote Indigenous crime prevention and community safety best practices.
