Description:
This project aims to protect public safety on roadways in Canada by equipping law enforcement with the training, tools and technology necessary to enforce new and existing drug-impaired driving legislation, and to deter through research, public awareness and the development of evidence-based policies.

Expected Results:

The objective of this initiative is to increase the number of frontline officers trained in SFST from the current level to at least 33% (396 officers) and to provide SFST Refresher to 100% of the current SFST trained officers (132) over the course of the project. The current 56 frontline officers trained as DREs will be increased to a total of 156 DRE trained frontline officers by the end of the project. The intention is for SFST training to be incorporated into the provincial police training curriculum after Year 3, and the funding being provided for instructors in Years 4 and 5 will be provided to support this objective.
