Agreement Value:

Agreement Date:
Sep 16, 2022 - Mar 31, 2027
Description:
With this funding, the National 7th Step Chapter will further develop, administer, and oversee low‑barrier record suspension support services through its Halifax and Calgary Chapters. The project will address administrative and financial barriers faced by individuals with criminal records, including the costs associated with applying for a record suspension and limited access to safe, confidential support spaces. By expanding office capacity and providing direct one‑on‑one assistance, the project aims to reduce barriers that prevent individuals (particularly those who are marginalized or underserved) from reintegrating into their communities and accessing meaningful employment, housing, and social opportunities.
Organization:
Public Safety Canada
Expected Results:

The goal of the project is to assist people in receiving record suspensions all across Canada by providing low-barrier access to these services. This project anticipates to be able to service 50 people annually, virtually or in person.
- Immediate outcome: Assist individuals with criminal records in gaining record suspensions.
- Intermediate outcome: Assist said individuals with their reintegration to society to reduce chances of reoffending.
- Long term outcome: Assist said individuals in becoming healthy and productive members of society, while being active in their community.
