Title:
Record Suspension Program (JHS of the Kawarthas)
Agreement Number:
22967
Agreement Value:
$1,191,546.00
Agreement Date:
Sep 28, 2022 - Mar 31, 2027
Description:
With this funding, John Howard Society of Peterborough will expand and administer record suspension application support services through a regional partnership with the John Howard Society of Durham and the John Howard Society of Kawartha Lakes. The project will focus on increasing awareness of record suspension opportunities and assisting individuals with criminal records in navigating the complex application process. By addressing financial, administrative, and systemic barriers faced by marginalized and underprivileged individuals (including Black, Indigenous, and people of colour) the project aims to improve access to record suspensions and support successful reintegration through increased access to employment, housing, education, and community supports.
Organization:
Public Safety Canada
Expected Results:

The specific objective of the contribution stream is to provide funding to eligible recipients to create or expand application support services for individuals with criminal records looking to apply for a record suspension.  Currently the JHSP is only offering part-time programming for record suspension assistance. Additional funding will allow for the expansion of their services to a broader range of cliental and adjacent communities. JHSP has aligned its project goal with the Program, which is to assist marginalized and barriered individuals in successfully navigating the record suspension application process.  JHSP proposes their project will add to the greater Ontario project which will provide the opportunity to disseminate knowledge and produce educational materials to not only other JHS organizations but other organizations in general. Ultimately, they propose this dissemination of information will lead to increased knowledge and understanding of how Canada’s federal corrections and criminal justice system rehabilitates and reintegrates individuals. JHSP has addressed fulfilling the following results and outcomes of the Program’s terms and conditions:

Immediate Outcomes:
· Shared knowledge and awareness leading to enhanced delivery of services, such as dissemination of information.
· Contribution recipients have the capacity to administer support services for pardon application assistance through program funding.

Intermediate Outcomes:
· Increased capacity of NVOs to fulfill their mandates.
· Contribution recipients implement support services for pardon application assistance through program funding.

Long-Term Outcomes:
· Individuals with criminal records are using supports provided by government-funded projects.
· Canada’s federal corrections and criminal justice system rehabilitates and reintegrates offenders.
