Description:
The Regional Municipality of Halton will develop an upstream guns and gang initiative, with plans to maintain a safe environment for local youth by steering them away from pathways that lead to violent crime. The objective of the multi-year prevention/intervention project is to decrease gun and gang activity in the Halton Region.

-Grant Program Expected Outcomes: Open applications and review/approve BSC programs.
-Knowledge Mobilization Expected Outcomes: Community Landscape and Best Practices Report, Community Engagement Report, as well as a Halton Region Building Safer Communities Grant Program, Guideline and Framework Report.

Medium-Term Outcomes:
-Identified municipalities and Indigenous communities implement informed prevention and intervention initiatives to respond to gun and gang violence.
-Action Table Expected Outcomes: Build capacity and mobilize knowledge to better understand prevention and intervention initiatives.
-Grant Program Expected Outcomes: Develop a Halton-specific funding framework.
-Knowledge Mobilization Expected Outcomes: Building Safer Communities in Halton Action Plan.

Long-Term Outcomes:
-Identified municipalities and Indigenous communities are equipped to address gun and gang violence through intervention and prevention initiatives.
-Action Table Expected Outcomes: Enhance evidence-based prevention/intervention activities and develop a data collection system.
-Grant Program Expected Outcomes: Fund and manage single and multi-year grant programs and initiatives and eventually public program evaluation conclusions.
