Description:
With this funding, John Howard Society British Columbia will develop, implement, and expand record suspension application support services for individuals with criminal records across British Columbia. The project will focus on increasing awareness of record suspension opportunities, strengthening community outreach, and providing culturally appropriate, client‑centred supports to guide applicants through the record suspension process. By addressing financial, administrative, and systemic barriers (particularly for marginalized and underserved populations, including those in rural and northern communities) the project aims to increase successful record suspension outcomes and support sustained rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Expected Results:

The specific objective of the contribution stream is to provide funding for NVOs to create or expand application support services for individuals with criminal records looking to apply for a record suspension.
JHSBC has provided a breakdown of their expected outcomes in each phase.

Phase 1 Project Initiation: Funding is available, project team in place, and project plan and management approaches are in place and approved.

Phase 2 Design, Development and Dissemination of information: Plain language, accessible and culturally appropriate communications materials to support project delivery and outcomes.

Phase 3 Implement, Operate, Monitor and Refine: Press releases; program announcements; ongoing and expanding opportunities for workshops and training and service delivery partnerships; ongoing client referrals and program registrations, tiered client services; client
applications to the Parole Board of Canada for record suspensions , data to inform continuous improvement and future evaluation, program improvements.

Phase 4 Operate Scale Up: Ongoing and expanding opportunities for workshops and training and service delivery partnerships; ongoing client referrals and program registrations, client applications to the Parole Board of Canada for record suspensions, data to inform continuous improvement and future evaluation, program improvements.

Phase 5 Final Evaluation: Key outputs include the evaluation report.
