Description:
The purpose of this project is to enhance interoperability between Search and Rescue (SAR) organizations at the federal, provincial, territorial and municipal levels through hosting the national SARScene conference in the fall of 2026. The conference will be national in scope, involve ground, marine, and air SAR personnel and include meaningful Indigenous participation and leadership. The purpose for the conference is to strengthen interoperability, accelerate innovation, and share best practices that improve outcomes for missing persons and disaster response across Canada.

Expected Results:

Short-term outcomes:
Promote and support projects designed to develop and improve SAR prevention
· Updating all SAR partners, responders, policy makers and volunteers as to when and where SARScene 2026 will be held. This provides opportunities for contribution and participation in the event.

Medium-term outcomes:
Enhance the effectiveness of the SAR response in federal, provincial and territorial jurisdictions
· The conference will provide a network for SAR communities to share experiences, knowledge, tools, services and best practices. This conference can increase morale and growth within SAR across Canada, with all involved working together towards One Mission.

Long-term outcomes:
Share SAR response and prevention best practices throughout the SAR community
· The after-effects of the conference will continue long beyond the event itself, with new relationships and collaborations being formed, and best practices continuing to be shared.
