Description:
The City of Moncton will implement a multi-year prevention/intervention plan to address risk and protective factors among at-risk youth in the Codiac Region. Through new partnerships with community organizations and service providers across multiple sectors, the region will be better equipped to address gun and gang violence through sustained programming moving forward.

Expected Results:

Short-term expected results: Identified municipalities and Indigenous communities have funding for prevention and intervention initiatives to address and respond to gun and gang violence.
1. Knowledge to fill gaps at the community level related to high-risk youth and gun and gang violence is developed; and,
2. Participants (high-risk youth) are identified and recruited or the prevention/intervention initiatives to be implemented in fiscal years 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26.

Medium-term expected results: Identified municipalities and Indigenous communities implement informed prevention and intervention initiatives to respond to gun and gang violence.
1. Youth-led crime prevention projects benefit young people and families in the community, through targeted prevention efforts.
2. An increase in the number of young people and their families who have access to services they need.

Long-term expected result: Identified municipalities and Indigenous communities are equipped to address gun and gang violence through intervention and prevention initiatives.
1. Decrease in percentage of youth involved in gun and gang violence, according to police and front line worker data;
2. Increase in sustained prevention, early intervention and intervention activities.

Program Purpose:

The program purpose is to support Municipalities and Indigenous governments in their efforts to address gun and gang prevalence by providing a determined funding allocation to put in place community led projects to combat gun and gang violence and address knowledge gaps concerning the impacts of interventions in gun and gang violence.
