Description:
The project aims to take stock of transphobic hate crimes and victims of gun crimes. They plan to inform professionals (risk, screening and intervention) with a guide, and the trans and non-binary community with tools to raise awareness of their legal recourses (Red Flag Laws). This project aims to make these laws visible and accessible, so that everyone is informed of their rights.

Expected Results:

Immediate Outcomes:
- Improved knowledge and understanding to support decision-making related to public safety and emergency management systems in Canada.
- Innovative approaches, lessons learned, and best-practice resources.
- Knowledge sharing and increased awareness leading to improved service delivery, including the dissemination of information.
- Enhanced intersectoral or interdisciplinary collaboration and service delivery.

The literature review and the development of awareness tools will help improve knowledge of transphobic hate crimes and available legal remedies, while promoting the dissemination of best practices among service providers and the broader community.

Intermediate Outcomes:
- recommendations aimed at informing policy and legislative changes.
- Increased public awareness and greater public confidence in Canada’s criminal justice, emergency management, and national security systems.
- Strengthened capacity of national volunteer and non-profit organizations to fulfill their mandates.
- Enhanced community capacity to work with victims, offenders, families, and local representatives such as police officers and emergency first responders.

By strengthening the capacity of service providers to identify and support transgender individuals at risk, the project contributes to improved service delivery and greater public awareness of safety and justice issues affecting transgender and non-binary communities.
Ultimate Outcome.

The intermediate outcomes are expected to contribute to the following ultimate outcome:
- A safer, more secure, and more resilient Canadian society.

By making the law more accessible and equipping professionals and communities with the necessary knowledge and tools, the project helps build a safer, more inclusive, and more resilient Canadian society in the face of targeted violence.
