Agreement Number:

Agreement Value:
$642,948.04
Agreement Date:
May 10, 2018 - Mar 31, 2021
Description:
This two-part project will increase SAR Awareness levels and sustainable lifejacket wear by Indigenous people in Northern communities. Part one will educate Junior Canadian Rangers (JCRs) about SAR Awareness and equip them with personal lifejackets at their annual Basic and Advanced Enhanced Training Session (ETS) Camps. These are girls and boys, aged 12 to 18, who are involved in outdoor pursuits like boating, hunting and fishing, and who live in remote and isolated areas of Canada served by the Canadian Rangers
Organization:
Public Safety Canada
Expected Results:

The immediate outcome will be the provision of lifejackets and delivery of SAR Awareness knowledge at Junior Canadian Ranger Basic and Advanced ETS Camps and through the JCRs, into the northern communities. The expected response will be a desire to wear lifejackets by both the youth and through their influence, their family members. This will result in immediate outcomes of increased lifejacket availability and increased knowledge about survival among those directly reached. The long-term outcome is an expected reduction in the number and severity of SAR incidents in northern communities across northern Canada.
