Description:

Building on the work of Public Safety Canada’s substance use stigma reduction training program, “Drug Stigma Awareness for Law Enforcement”, CCSA will develop an interactive bilingual (English and French) virtual event to increase awareness and understanding of substance use across the lifespan, the spectrum of substance use and its relationship to mental health and stigma and its associated impacts on people who use substances, their families and communities.

Increase understanding of self, social and structural stigma; Increase understanding of stigma on members of the law enforcement community; Increase understanding of the impacts of stigma in the delivery of services; Increase understanding of early brain development, adverse childhood events and levels of stress and their relationship to problematic substance use and substance use disorders; Increase understanding of how stigmatizing perceptions and attitudes about people who use substances or are experiencing a substance use disorder creates barriers and prevents people from accessing support and services; Shift perceptions and attitudes about people who use substances; Change language used to describe people who use substances; shift to person-first language; Law enforcement community accesses stigma training webinar.
